How to Use Both an eSIM and a Physical SIM Viettel - Guide for iOS & Android


 

This guide explains how to use a Viettel eSIM together with a physical SIM card on compatible smartphones. Dual SIM capability lets users separate work/personal numbers or add a local Viettel data plan when traveling in Vietnam.

1. Requirements

To use both SIM types at the same time, you need:

  • A Dual SIM–compatible phone

    • iPhones from XS / XR and newer

    • Android flagships such as Samsung Galaxy S/Z series, Google Pixel 3+, and similar models

    • Compatibility can be checked via phone settings or by dialing *#06# to confirm an EID number (for eSIM support)

  • An unlocked device

  • Two active SIM lines:

    • 1 physical SIM

    • 1 Viettel eSIM (tourists can buy at airport kiosks)

  • Stable Wi-Fi to download the eSIM profile

2. How to Set Up Dual SIM

For iPhone

  1. Insert the physical SIM.

  2. Go to Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM.

  3. Scan the Viettel QR code.

  4. Follow prompts to activate the eSIM.

  5. Label both lines (e.g., Primary / Travel).

For Android

  1. Insert the physical SIM.

  2. Open Settings > Connections > SIM card manager.

  3. Select Add eSIM / Add mobile plan.

  4. Scan the Viettel QR code.

  5. Confirm activation and label the eSIM.

3. Managing Two Active Lines

  • You can choose which SIM is used by default for calls and SMS.

  • Only one SIM can use mobile data at a time—select it in the Mobile Data settings.

  • You may switch between lines anytime through the SIM settings menu.

4. FAQs

  • You can receive calls on both SIMs thanks to Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS), though a second call will go to voicemail if the other line is busy.

  • You can use two Viettel numbers, but one number cannot be activated on both eSIM and physical SIM simultaneously.

  • Running two SIMs may slightly increase battery usage but usually has minimal impact.
